Yes . . . as a matter of fact, yes!
These dirty, mangled, muddy looking beets.
I love them!
I'm quite sure a deep tangent could be had right here, but, alas...end of the night so we shall all be spared. (-:
Harvested these Friday morning before teaching and still have another round to go before Fall's end. I had exactly the amount of beets I could want after planting from seed in June, yay!
Awwww....aren't those little darlings starting to look scrump-diddly-umpcious??!! (-: They're actually being roasted right this very moment, yes, as a matter of fact I do roast beets at 9:48 p.m. I also shine my car lights on the apple orchard (3 trees (-:) at 8:40 p.m. upon returning from my third hockey game in two days so I can put straw over some grass seed spread earlier today.
Well, well . . . speaking of hockey games, we interrupt this beet loving post with our very own #40 getting ready for his first game of the year...in mid-October (kinda late for a first game!). Crazy hockey story for this boy this year. He really didn't want to play for his HS team as he tried it last year as a freshman (they don't have enough guys for JV and Varsity) and he was out there playing the covid-compromised season with 18 year old seniors...before much of his growth spurt. It was a bit much for him and he said he just wanted to play fun games of hockey. Well, there are not a lot of options in this area for that. Basically, his age (sophomore) hockey player plays for their HS or trys to play travel hockey through the ice houses. We tried for House hockey at about six rinks we were familiar with in a 30 mile radius with no luck so he thought that was it for hockey this year. Then, out of the blue, we got an email from a hockey arena at the 35 mile radius point, haha, that they were looking for players for a BB level team...sounded like house hockey to me so that's how I presented it to William (typically I see A, AA and AAA for travel hockey). So about three weeks ago he started hockey at a rink a couple miles south from where my paternal grandparents lived during my childhood. Cool to go see their house one day after practice! This team has just two practices a week and hasn't actually had any games scheduled yet until the tournament this weekend. They're kinda getting creamed having not played any games yet this season and only having 8 guys and a goalie, but they get to play hockey!
So, anyway, yeah...I love beets. No pics of the roasted ones, they're still going and will not be pretty this late at night in my kitchen with ugly florescent lighting. G'night!
