Whoops!! . . .

I totally underestimated the cost of my contract work!

I offered these boys 5 cents a dandelion for whatever they found in the yard. I quit Tru-Green lawn care a few years ago, leery of it's impact on our well-water and the kids and I haven't had it in me to buy dandelion killer either. So, I eyeballed the lawn and thought they might be able to make a buck-fifty or so . . .

Turns out, Mr. White bowl pulled in $5.65 and Mr. Red tallied up $5.55!!!!

Had to post both these pics because pic #2 is Harrison after a request to relax his smile a bit.
(-:

Postscript:
After they got a taste of making some real money they insisted on heading out for one last round. The final tally was $6.15 for Harrison and $6.55 for Ben. I believe this offer will be rescinded to a penny per dandelion in the future!

I said "Don't play with your food" . . .

But when you follow that up with "Wait, I want to take a picture first", it kind of looses it's impact!

Now we're getting somewhere . . .

80 degrees,
two boys,
a dusty gazebo,
and popsicles!

Harrison's quote of the day (from lunchtime):
"There's nothing like a good olive on a nice warm day."

It's a Good Thing . . .

Planting Seeds in Egg Shells!

1. Add dirt

2. Concentrate now

3. Plant seeds

4. Tap down dirt

5. Oh...uh...o.k., Add more dirt (-:

6. Spritz with water

7. Cover with saran and set in a sunny spot

I made 11 of these for Harrison's "Alleluia" party at school (yep, they can celebrate Christ's resurrection at his school) and an extra one for lucky William. I'd been saving (and collecting, "thanks, mom") 72 cracked egg shells for about two weeks and Lara and I decided to dye them over the weekend (no need to dye for a simple project of course). The shells are biodegradable so once they're ready to go outside you can plant them right in the shell.

Good luck!

AND:

I took the four to the Detroit Zoo last week in 70 degree weather.
Nice!
(though today it hailed on my deck!)

Gray Skies Are Gonna Clear Up . . .

Check the Playlist (-:

It's sunny and 67 degrees, hallelujah!!!

One lonely crocus sits at the entry to the driveway trying to proclaim Springs arrival.

That nice, strong rhubarb however was not put off by our ridiculous April snows at all!

IT IS SNOWING OUTSIDE MY KITCHEN WINDOW!!!!
5:27p.m.

Happy (day after) Easter!

Yep, this pic is from today, the day after...and yes, he's still in his Easter shirt. Remember, he doesn't like to wear pajamas? Well, if the previous day's clothes aren't messy, they stay on too. How's that for parenting? (-:

Anyway, not many posts as of late. Sweet baby #5 (and the nausea and exhaustion that are coming along with this first trimester) and this depressing, cold weather are keeping me from seeing the funny, quirky, odd bits that make up the comic strip that is our lives, and that I like to post.

Here's to May!

Hey, Al Gore!! . . .

Would you please send some of that global warming to Michigan?!?!

Today, April 7th, I packed all the kid's snow gear into bags and sent them off to school. It's 31 degrees, snow is everywhere and we've had flurries all morning.
Again, I am NOT amused!

You've GOT to be kidding me!!!

SNOW DAY!

No school today, I'm really not amused. We only have about four inches though it's a big slushy mess I guess and it is still snowing. AND, I had to eat my words and get the snow pants out again (least I still had all the mittens, hats and boots out, ha!). Well, at least it's not April 6, 1886 in SE Michigan when they got 24 inches of snow!

Something for Saturday

Aren't those pretty?
(-:

Gobs of sunshine today made these tulips from a friend stand out.
(take note however that the outdoor temp peeking through is 35!)

Found this in the paper today.
(a 174 year old paper going out of business in July, btw!)
I think it's funny that the story centers around a Finnish housewife but the movie's in Swedish. I wonder if the subtitles are Finnish?! (-:

"Somewhere Over the Rainbow"

But this isn't any "Over the Rainbow", this one is by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole and his ukulele. Yes, you read that correctly...and I love it! Take a listen . . .
