Oh my friends . . . the story I have behind this most beautiful and delicious apple pastry is just another one for the books (in my mind at least, haha!). So, let's get comfy and find out what in the world else could be going on here at the ol' homestead. (-:
So . . . about a month ago or so, after a month or so of not mowing under the apple trees (I have 3, two are producing this year) due to the dropping apples that I've silently protested raking, I took a shot in the dark and posted an add on the Nextdoor app (an app of my neighbors close by and in surrounding communities that have also joined this site) offering Free Apples. I was thinking perhaps there are people out there that would like them for their animals, and I was really thinking, "PLEASE...come pick these apples off the ground for me!!!!" I had hoped to get a screenshot of my original posting but it was already removed once it expired. Above is the top half of my original post without my other details.

The other pic I posted.
Well, as it turns out I've had three people (two couples) reply and stop by for apples and one of the couples (I think maybe hailing from Russia or thereabouts with their names and accents) was just incredible! On their first trip over, not only did they pick up all the good apples, they also picked up all the old, rotten ones as they were so grateful to be getting free, no pesticide apples! I was like, "What??" "You are doing me a huge favor here already, you certainly don't have to clean up everything." But...they did. And then they came back, bearing gifts (a bar of homemade soap and a homemade bath bomb) and did it again. The second time I did say, "feel free to pick from the trees too!" And they did. The next time they came they brought that warm, freshly baked apple delight, picked some more apples, just a few this time, and were off. We may be done for the season I think, but I've told them to keep the apples in mind for next year. (-:
I kinda love that story. I love that they took such delight in those apples that I found as burdensome. I love how a few stranger "neighbors" (we're a town apart really), both had this great interaction together and both served each other in different ways, even with continuing brief text exchanges about soaps, apples, and pastries! (-: I even began raking the apples close to the trees anyway so they wouldn't have to walk all over the place, the actual thing I couldn't stand doing, raking the apples!
This week, maybe you'll check into Luke Chapter 10, read the whole chapter and beginning at verse 27 you'll find . . . "And he answered, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself." Then continue on and hear "And who is my neighbor?" asked by a lawyer trying to put Jesus to the test.
This week, go find some freshly grown apples and maybe make something as simple as homemade applesauce and then consider a way you can serve one of your neighbors in the future. Whether they're from your actual neighborhood, or, your greater surrounding community. It could just bring an unexpected smile to your heart as a result!
Have a most blessed and fruitful week to come!
