HOCO 2021 . . .

Well, all those poster board assignments in K-8 have paid off, she did "pink" him to go to HOCO (or for those of us that couldn't figure out what HOCO was for many months . . . The Homecoming Dance)! So, in some crowds for the last who knows how many years, there's the trend of having to do something more elaborate than simply asking someone to the dance, some kind of production needs to be made about the event of "asking" for some reason...I think likely so it's social media worthy.  I suggested to William that I thought it could be time to send the pendulum in the other direction on this trend and start a new/old one of just asking the gal, no production needed. It can be a new craze I suggested and a lot easier on everyone (I'm not even sure anymore how many dollar stores we, and then I, went to looking for fake flowers and ended up getting them from Michaels for a pretty penny). He liked the idea but the general consensus on the ground (in the high school hallways and amongst the friends group) was that a production of some sort was absolutely necessary. So, at the saxophone shirt tie-dying bonding event (yes, it was presented to me as a saxophone section bonding event...can you even??!! haha!)...he brought his poster and she "pinked" him to go to homecoming. Mind you, they both already knew they were going to homecoming together and had picked out their colors and that's why "pinked" is even on the board because there was to be a pink dress and a pink bow tie involved in the evening. Why so many words on the subject? Well, honestly, it's just been a lot of fun to watch William having a great time with all this, a fun group of friends he's gotten to know starting at band camp, and a special girl too. It's been quite some time since I've had just good ol' high school activity in our family.

Last night was the homecoming parade and was supposed to be the homecoming game as well. An extra tall picture was needed for an extra tall hat and my special cropping techniques of, "I wasn't really expecting to be in a picture tonight." Haha! So funny that I continue to keep long hair when I so rarely have it down and it's typically got the "shellacked to my head after a swim" look, regardless if I'd had a swim that day (I hadn't, just showered to close to lesson start time and that's my go to instead of blow drying, wowza!). Anyhoo . . . 15 minutes before the parade started, while everyone was getting lined up, in cars and trucks etc...i.e., not on their phones...the principal sent out an email that the homecoming game had been CANCELLED!! What??!! Turned out a couple kids from the other team (from our same school district) had covid...but that team was still good with coming to play the game, just the covid kids would be out. However, OUR school played the fear factor and cancelled the game for the sake of "safety." and hour and a half before the game. Very uncool from my perspective but I'm not in the afraid camp so it's harder for me to grasp the afraid camp's perspective. William and his bandmates rolled with the punches and hung out at a friend's house instead.

And then, all dressed up!

I love this pic so much for William's carefree and easy smile and for the blog, his girlfriend's head turn because I'm not really sure if she'd like to be on the ol' blog...if anyone even knew how to find it, hahaha! This pic was in a series of shots where William was trying to figure out how to put on her bracelet corsage. Awww... (-: Yes, in fact, I do just have to kind of gloss my eyes over his hair and pretend it's just regular everyday trimmed up hair, haha! I don't insist or even ask that he cut it, because I kinda feel like history on that topic between kids and parents has shown that not to be the most effective hill to die on as far as parenting goes. William decided upon the black shirt under the suit coat look, I think it was a great choice! Then they headed off to dinner at a fancy restaurant in town and to the dance...on the football field! Yep...because, inside the school would have all these covid ramifications I heard (however and hour and eleven minute drive east today had the equivalent of maybe five homecoming dances in a high school at a volleyball tourney...not even masked, hmmm so many questions...but alas...). I'm so happy that our weather was absolutely perfect for that October 9th gamble! Warm and sunny all day and well into the evening it stayed at just the perfect temp!

So that's that. Two members of the saxophone section, met at band camp and headed off for the homecoming festivities. So Sweet!
