Seven months of preparation, and then . . .

This.

Seven months of planting (in June), tending, showing off, harvesting, cleaning seeds from the first batch (and then not getting to roast them and throwing them away )-:), saving five in the garage until December . . . My Pumpkins!

My
P. U. M. P. K. I. N. S.

Been tending My Pumpkins for quite some time really.
June
July
August
September
October
November
December
That would be seven months by my count.
(-:
You with me?

Here it comes . . .

This past Sunday, before leaving for church, I said to myself..."Self, today's the day! Let's get those seeds out of those pumpkins and roast 'em up, you got this!" And so while letting Alli out, 37 degrees, with my fuzzy lined gardening gloves (what a thrill to find those at the Ace this fall!) some kind of tree trimming saw thing, I hacked open some giant pumpkins and began scooping seeds on the picnic table. Finished scooping throughout bits of the day after church. Left a couple of huge bowls of seeds and pulp in the garage.
No roasting happened on Sunday

Monday, Livia and I watched the new Mulan and throughout the entire movie, I pulled seeds off pulp.
The entire movie.
Yep.
I put the seeds in two seperate bags since my biggest pumpkin had gigantic seeds and I knew I wanted to roast those separately.
No Roasting happened on Monday.

Tuesday, I ended up teaching the whole day at home and said again to myself..."Self, today's really the day, let's get crackin' and roast the first batch!" I agreed with myself on Tuesday (-: and googled, "Best pumpkin seed recipe." I always put "best" in my recipe searches, I'm quite confident I do get the BEST! (-:

At this point . . . how's about we scroll back to the top of this verbose posting and take a look at the recipe I eagerly settled upon. Perhaps you may need a moment or two for things to register...or perhaps...like a regular, bright, open-eyed person...you won't need a moment or two to notice that I . . .

SETTLED IN ON A SUNFLOWER SEED RECIPE FOR MY PUMPKIN SEEDS!!!

What in the holy hambone, People??!!
There is a GIANT SUNFLOWER in the picture that literally NEVER caught my eye.

I googled . . . eyeball rolling emoji.
Can't believe I never thought of doing that before.
This post pushed me to the extreme.

So yeah...the hour and a half of simmering the pumpkin seeds in massively salted water and then roasting as called for with the sunflower seeds, and roasting and roasting and roasting them way longer than anyone ever called for because I just wasn't seeing the shells lightly brown...
Was
Not
Successful.

Wow!

Fortunately...I have one more bag in the fridge of the medium sized pumpkin seeds.
Let's see what my "best recipe ever" ends up being for those!

AND FINALLY . . . what in the absolute world have I been doing waltzing around my yard leaving all those sunflower seeds for the sweet little squirrels and birds!! Sorry little friends, next year...I have THEE BEST recipe for roasting my sunflower seeds!
