I'm going to blame the . . .

 DEEP FRIED TWINKIE!
(Even though I only had the smallest nibble when it's owner looked mildly horrified that I was going to put my mouth on it.  It coulda' been the extreme heat though, not sure.)

Anyhoo . . .

While I hope to post more later, my oldest and youngest (the middle three are in school already, heehee) and I enjoyed a day at a local, county fair today.  It was technically "Preschool Day' which got us a reduced entry fee and free rides on the preschool-ish rides...the 14 year old wasn't all that excited to come.  Then I whispered, "We can buy an elephant ear since we won't have many kids with us." We hardly ever buy stuff like that after paying the hefty fee to get seven of us in somewhere.  So, I sold her on the trip.

Who would've guessed though what she ended up selling me on!

 Yep, Benny the Bunny!

Yes, my friends...at nine o'clock this Sunday evening (that's when they break down the fair and the show animals need to leave), we become the proud owners of one, Benny the Bunny.

To date we've only managed one fish (maybe three months) and one frog (a little over a year)...we have great hopes for Benny to be with us for MUCH longer than that...

After hemming and hawing about the bunny purchase...well, I suppose hemming and hawing would've been what one would have done fifty years ago.  Actually, I got online, at the fair, on my iPhone and immediately began researching "How to Care for a Bunny" and "Do bunnies make good pets?" Lara and I mulled it over for a good hour or so while walking around, then  I decided to do it, only to discover they only take cash, which we didn't have, then we discovered they have an atm, then we discovered it was out of order and the worker wouldn't return for 35 minutes, then she peeked her head out as we stood there mulling again and said there was another atm in that building over there.  Whew...after each roadblock we'd say, "Maybe that's a sign that we shouldn't get the bunny," then something would pop up and we'd say, "Maybe that's a sign we SHOULD get the bunny." We were a hot, sweaty trio on a bunny buying mission.

And now we have our very own . . .

Benny!
A Holland Lop who did not actually fare very well with the judges and is no where near Grand Champion (can't wait to show you the stunning Grand Champion dried corn...), but is going to be so loved by this family, YAY!

Postscript:
If by chance you see "Buck Jr." on a bunny cage, next to "Buck Sr." on the next cage don't go around saying things like, "Wasn't little Bucky Jr. sooooo cute?" . . . Buck is referring to a boy rabbit and is NOT a name!!! (Not that I'd know that from experience, (-:).
