Wrapping up July! . . .

This gal and I were the only two that headed up north this year! William stayed back to work as he's had quite a bit of travel scheduled this summer with various things. We hiked out to the end of the breakwater at McLain State Park, didn't get to that last year. I had to admit that when one has their fifth and last child at age 39, one likely doesn't think about who will be making their way over the massive boulders with the then 12 year old in 2022 when no older siblings are around. This just might have been my last year making it out to the end of that ol' beauty, whew! (-:

Oh wait . . . yes, we brought Alli! (-:
Awww, enjoying the fountain at Presque Isle.
Someday I'll find the pics with all the kids at this fountain. We would regularly stop at the park here and have pasty when we hit Marquette.

We had the best sunsets as per usual. I was loving these one with the storm below and the sun shining through above.

Ahhhhhh . . . .
It was so chill this year. We lazed around, played racquetball at Tech this year (brand new activity this trip!), played lots of Yahtzee, I took saunas,  just a delightful time all around!

Now, a recap of other July happenings . . .

Well, William headed of to the National Youth Gathering for our Lutheran denomination in Houston, TX, kind of re-met a friend from our church there, who had red hair, and then decided he too needed red hair. Here they are now meeting up to walk around downtown one afternoon (why yes, as a matter of fact, as I pulled away from the drop off I did snap this pic, I mean come on...this!). His hair, ehm, is fading . . . eyeball rolling emoji . . .

Lara, while out on the job, having flown some clients to Colorado, found this dandy of a snake on the river banks here. It was not living when she found it. All in a day's work for this gal and her adventures!

The gardening has been going well this year. I'm most gaga over the garlic harvest. I never counted exactly how many I got, with giant cloves in each head of garlic, but I think probably around 15 maybe? Did I already post this???? I found a draft marked July 13 with nothing in it and these pics on my computer, maybe this was supposed to be July 13, hmmmm? Anywho, large tomatoes have just started ripening this past week and there are lots of them around. I find it funny that I left this one garden wide open, that I walled off from the rabbits last year, and no rabbits have touched a thing in there. Thought for sure they'd go after the beans but nope!

This could be titled, "I love capers," but it's really about the garlic scapes. (-: I managed to think about them this year at the right time and harvested the garlic scapes, before the garlic and figured out some things to do with them. Here I roasted them with the salmon and capers, capers, capers. I also diced them occasionally and threw them in sautees and various other veggie mixtures. They were good but not earth shattering.

The daylily garden was absolutely glowing a couple nights ago.
(-:

And finally, first year of blackberries. I put the tiny plant in last summer, it grew all summer with no berries and this year it absolutely exploded! So, so many! The only thing is I chose to have someone spray for mosquitoes this year because last year I couldn't walk in the yard from the end of July through September regardless of time of day, and this guy sprayed all over this plant, UGH!  So, I hyper wash, rewash, rewash, and wash again before eating a berry, which I don't like. One thing I just love is eating what I pick right outside. But alas, gonna move on and enjoy the berries one way or another!

On to August we go!
