Anatomy of a swim meet . . .

11 & 12 girls being marshaled for the 200m freestyle
Can you find Lara?
(I actually missed a step, right before this they're standing in a big clump over on the grass, then they slowly get lined up on these benches in their "heat" order)

Don't think the effect is as great on video but I loved watching them move up one bench at a time. It was like a little wave and they were all so nonchalant about it.

Still moving bench by bench from all those outside benches to these indoor benches.
It is quite the process!

End of the line, still waiting.
Hope they have sunblock on their backs!!

Next there are rows of chairs along the wall of the pool to sit in.
They move up about four sets of these then into a line about three deep at the starting blocks!!
The whole thing amazes me!

What you have here are a lot of wilted, withered and HOT parents about to watch a three minute race and dart back downstairs.
Weds. it was 91 degrees outside and about 130 in these bleachers, that is not a lie!

I'm following Lara here, green cap if you can tell.
Her challenge this year was to learn flip turns, and she did it!
A 200 free is 8 lengths of the pool.
I can tell you personally, that is HARD work in a race!
She did great!!

Then it's back to our little slice of shade until the process starts all over again.

It was a long week, but a good week.
The kids had fun hanging out with friends, playing scrabble, reading and
SWIMMING!
