You see that boy there? Yes, the one in front of the pack right from the gun shot. Yes, the one that when I saw him take that front spot so early and blow off ahead I foolishly thought, "Yikes, William, don't blow all that energy so early." Yeah, you see that boy??? The one in his first ever cross country race and sure not to be his last...
Well, here he is just after the race, checking out his prize.
Here he his with the beginning of an ear to ear smile of pride that the photo didn't catch, a smile that just blew my heart wide open in joy for this guy.
Yes, here is the FIRST PLACE winner for the opening Cross Country meet of the season! I never got the time, he ran a mile though, and the nearest competitor was a girl that was at least 20 seconds or so behind him and the nearest boy was more than a minute away from him!!! I have always said, "this boy is our runner" and yesterday I discovered I was right.
What I love especially is that, as third brother down, watching all that has gone on athletically with the big two, and getting the "little brother" push arounds in the family, is that he has his own, independent thing to not only excel at, but to be awesome at! he also loves cooking (he's in his second year of cooking classes and I would not mind in the least if he became a top chef at a NYC restaurant...ok, maybe Chicago...) and marksmanship (mom allowed the ol' bbgun purchase with the birthday money...bbguns and tackle football for the older one both got the green light this year...Hmm, hmm (-;)
